NIKE AIR FLIGHT 89

January 6th, 2009

The bad news that the elephant print Flight 89 is not being released has saddened me severely. But things are looking on the up for the 89 this year. Quite a number of colourways are planned – this being one of them. There must be some story behind these cos its got a picture of a grizzly bear on the inside heel, but seeing how we never get any background stories with the shoes, we’ll leave the guessing up to you. The patent leather side and heel panels are gone on this one (thank God!), and have been replaced by some heavy duty rubber embossed material. One of the most underrated retros of today.

ADIDAS

January 6th, 2009

With the amount of sneakers killing it in the skate game it was only natural that adidas take their three stripes and jack up their favourite models. The proof is in the pudding with most of the styles selling out as soon as they have hit the shelves. Just check out these killers and you can see why! A B-boy staple, the Gazelle gets a nice makeover with this simple yet sturdy skate shoe. The brushed suede blue on blue is one of the more iconic colourways from back in the day, so it’s good to see adidas Skate honour this shoe with a relaunch into the new millennium. The yellow disc on the sole of the shoe allows skaters a smoother landing with a dope cushioning system that will keep those clumsier tricksters from raking up physio bills.

With its red and yellow stripes offsetting the stark black upper, this is a great alternative to the silver and gold Skytop madness that has been flying off the shelves this season. What can we say? Supra keep rolling out the gems, and we’ll keep posting them!

ADIDAS X UPPER PLAYGROUND X HERBERT BAGLIONE

This Thursday, July 17th, marks the release of the new Herbert Baglione adidas Originals sneaker from Upper Playground. This is the first sneaker in the four-part series. Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, acclaimed fine artist Baglione is highly respected and recognized within the industry as well as throughout South America and Europe. He is known for his strong minimalist and simplistic approach to painting. According to Baglione, the basis of his work is addressing the coldness and competitiveness present in people. He likes to be ironic about things such as individuality and death, and the paths chosen to either achieve these experiences or distance oneself from it.

ADIDAS SUPERSTAR MONO

January 6th, 2009

Perhaps the most popular in the adidas range is the Superstar, or as we all know it the Shelltoe. It’s seen more makeovers than Joan Rivers’ face and yes, sometimes it was good. But this subtle face-lift is set off by a nice quilted stitch that keeps the upper tonal, yet adds some flavour with a twist. Looking somewhat like a basketball referee shoe (perfect to match with that Foot Locker uniform), it’s time to blow the whistle. The Nash inspired stitching on the tongue tag is perhaps the standout on the Mono, proving that if you’re going to go under surgery and tighten your flow, there will be stitches to show for it.
